My alma mater, the Malay College Kuala Kangsar (fondly known as the Malay College, MCKK, MC or Koleq and sometimes dubbed "the Eton of the East") is the premier residential school in Malaysia. It is an all-boys and all-Malay school located in the royal town of Kuala Kangsar, Perak. In the Malay language, it is called Kolej Melayu Kuala Kangsar or formerly Maktab Melayu Kuala Kangsar.

She taught me everything. I started there at twelve. Those were the best years of my life.

Hon Minister of Information suggested that the National Anthem be played at movie theatres. You have my full support YB. No one ever complained when we had to stand upright and sing the national anthem when we were under the British. Why are we complaining now. Isn't Malaysia our country? The Thais in the north never show any disrespect for their national anthem. When we visit Thailand, we accepted that. Come on Malaysians..

Congratulations Michael, Rubens, and Ferrari for the success at the USGP. You deserved it. Bridgestone must be happy. Shame on you the non starters .. and your tyre manufacturer. They should be blamed for the whole fiasco. Who are they to hold the sport at ransom. Blame yourselves. You are just resting on your laurels - your earlier successes don't mean a thing now.

It has been a long time since my last blog. Been busy with lectures and practicals. Suppose that's the life style of lecturers. Talking about this topic, a large number of students still think they are are school. They expect lecturers to tell them which page of the text book the lecture is taken from, what to study, etc. etc. Uni students have to grow up. They should start becoming independent. Maybe, we lactures are to be blamed. Some of us still acknowledge when students call us 'sir'. I hope students will stop calling lecturers 'sir'. Why can't they call us Mr. .. or .. Ms. . or Dr. That will wean them off the nursery days of college. Lecturers should help studens wean off the college days.

The Daimler seems to behave well. Nice smooth ride from home today. Volvo may be jealous. I think car may have life. Lately Volvo really misbehaved. Everything seems to go wrong. Even cars have life.

It has been a horrible beginning to the New Year. I lost my notebook. Someone stole it from my bag. This is the second notebook that was snatched away from me in 12 months. Why can't people work hard to get their own computer instead of stealing from others! I hope the person whole stole mine will die with a bloated stomach.

Looks like President George Bush is at it again. Bullying small countries - especially Muslim countries. Why can't Muslims do something? Rise Muslims.

Iraq elections will be held soon. I don't think it is going to be fair. How is it going to be fair when the population do not even know who their candidates are! and they do not even know where they are going to vote. What a fair election!!!!!!

I am happy for the tsunami victims that at last the heads of governments are meeting to get some order in the system. The pledges are many and large .. just wondered how many percent of the billions of US$ pledges will be honoured. I pray for 100%... but humans are not perfect.. therefore if we get any figure above 70% is commendable.

Disease could double tsunami death toll --The World Health Organization warned on Tuesday that disease in the aftermath of southern Asia's tsunami disaster could kill as many people as the deadly waves and earthquake have.
Asia Disaster Yields Its Dead, Toll at 59,000 --The sea and wreckage of coastal towns around the Indian Ocean yielded up tens of thousands of bodies on Tuesday, pushing the toll from Sunday's tsunami close to 60,000.
Indonesia ups deaths sending tsunami toll past 52,000 --Mourners in Sri Lanka used their bare hands to dig graves Tuesday while hungry islanders in Indonesia turned to looting in the aftermath of Asia's devastating tsunamis. Thousands more bodies were found in Indonesia, dramatically increasing the death toll across 11 nations to more than 52,000.

Things seem to progress well with the recovery efforts. Syabas Malaysia and the Malaysian public. Malaysia Boleh. Hope in future we will respond as we did for the Tsunami disaster.

My alma mater Malay College, Kuala Kangsar Malaysia has come of age - one hundred years on 2nd January 2005. She has served the country well. I am proud to be a product of MCKK. May the MCKK survive another a hudred years and more!!

First Day

Been a busy day with the organization of the coming conference - Advances in Agricultural Biotechnology Conference to be held on 29 - 30 September 2005. Bit behind schedule. Hopefully things will pick up soon.

Still feeling the effects of the Boxing Day Tsunami caused by an 8.9 earthquake off Sumatra coast. Numbers of perished lives keeps increasing. With all modern technology, it is surprising that no early warning was able to be broadcasted. Where did we go wrong? Were we caught with our pants down? Or the seismic people were having a bit of a nap? Please don't get me wrong. I am not blaming anyone.

Restoration work on the Daimler seems to be progressing nicely. Fixed the aircon yeaterday. Took nealy 3 month to restore. Hopefully i can drive it in the New Year. It will be a long time till I will undertake another restoration work. I am itchy to do a Rolls.

Two days to New Year

Whoa .. what a busy end of the year!!. I am worried that some colleagues are poor teamworkers. Some of these punks think only of themselves .. sort of tamak - greedy. Many are non ethical. Not good for the academic profession. Gone are the days when academics respect one another and do not encroach into another colleagues' field. People who know next to microbes want to supervise students on microbial ecology. Poor students.. taught how to handle the ropes the wrong way.. Maybe I am senile ..

I am indeed happy that Honorable PM sort of suggested that the New Year celebrations be cancelled. Good on you Sir. I hope the organisers use that money to help the victims. Or do you need the PM to hint!! Malaysians are like that. When the PM opens his mouth, everyone scramble to be recognised doing what he says. Me blabbering again!!.
